Castleford Civic Society

'Valuing our past and encouraging
pride in our future'

Many of our members volunteer in other groups across Castleford, including local parks and greenspaces, history and heritage and musical organisations. We encourage civic pride in Castleford through organising a range of activities and events in the Town - these currently include:

We are a friendly, non-political group of local volunteers wanting
to foster a sense of civic pride in Castleford.

Organising floral displays in Castleford Town Centre and Glasshoughton.

Encouraging local businesses to take part in seasonal window displays - the Civic Society presents Annual Windows Awards for those judged to be the best.

Installing new civic plaques and maintaining the existing ones. We want to eventually introduce a Civic Plaque Trail.

Organising speakers for open meetings on a variety of topics including recent Roman finds and buildings of interest.

Working with other organisations and groups in Castleford, including Wakefield Council, Castleford Heritage Trust and the wider community.

Learning more about our heritage and the stories of Castleford and its characters, in imaginative ways including a Healdfield Road Cemetery Trail and QR coded video explainers.

Our Patron, Lord St Oswald, actively supports our work and attends various meetings and events.
